What is hypnosis? What is trance?
Hypnosis and trance are the same thing and hold the same meaning. It is a natural state of selective and focused attention, and one of the most fascinating phenomena of the human mind. People regularly go in and out of trance during their daily activities such as when they are exercising, daydreaming, or driving (e.g. when we sometimes don't remember how we drove from point A to B).
What happens during hypnosis?
Through the creation of a state of relaxation, the conscious mind becomes less active, and when this occurs the imagination rather that the intellect becomes active. The unconscious mind experiences a heightened awareness and becomes open to helpful suggestions and positive reinforcement.
What are the facts and fiction about hypnosis?
Facts:
You can't be hypnotised to do anything against your will.
You cannot get stuck in a trance.
Fiction:
A person under hypnosis is asleep or unconscious.
I can't be hypnotised.
I won't remember anything the hypnotherapist says.
What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy focuses on the 'solution', rather than the 'problem'. It looks at the 'here and now', not the 'past'. It deals with the current situation and the Client's vision of the future, and uses a 'client centric' approach which means that the Client takes the lead in their sessions with the Therapist facilitating and helping. It employs practical strategies to enable people to make significant positive changes in their lives in a relatively short space of time.
What is 'Client Centric Approach' in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
People have inner strength and resources that they can utilise to solve their own problems and help themselves in their own lives. The Therapist is only there to guide, support, help and facilitate the whole experience for Clients to discover their inner strength and use it to make significant positive changes in their lives. Clients can re-use the same approach, mindset and techniques that they learn and apply during their solution focused hypnotherapy sessions in the future when they face similar challenges.
